Job Overview

Microsat Systems Canada Inc. (MSCI) is a leading privately-held Canadian corporation in design, build and operation of microsatellites, and a world-leader in the development and manufacture of spacecraft reaction wheels and rate measurement units. We are currently seeking an individual to fill a Mechanical Engineering Co-op position within the engineering team.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Modelling of microsatellite mechanical components including reaction wheels
  • High-level structural analysis of satellite components under dynamic and/or static loads
  • Maintenance of mechanical drawings and documents within an ISO framework
  • Detailed design of mechanical sub-assemblies
This is a 4-8 month temporary position, with the possibility of conversion to permanent at the end of the term (specify work-term duration in application).


  • Experience in using SolidWorks
  • Experience in designing and/or prototyping mechanical systems/subsystems
  • Registered in a Bachelor's degree program in Mechanical or Mechatronics Engineering
  • At minimum, having finished the first 2 years of study
  • Have obtained, over the previous years of study, a cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of better than B- as defined by the institution enrolled
  • Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident of Canada
  • Able to obtain and maintain, through the Company, eligibility for access to controlled goods and / or technology in accordance with the policies and regulations of the Controlled Goods Directorate of the Government of Canada
  • Team player with exceptional oral, writing, and presentation skills
  • Superb interpersonal and communication skills

Desired Skills:

  • Experience in using Nastran or other FEM software
  • Having finished 3 or more years of study
  • Familiarity with MATLAB and Simulink
  • Knowledge in vibration/shock testing of mechanical systems
  • Familiarity with generating, releasing, and executing integration and functional verification and validation procedures for electromechanical sub-systems
  • Familiarity with operating electrical test instrumentation (oscilloscope, digital voltmeter, logic analyzer, current probe)
  • Familiarity with operating mechanical test instrumentation (accelerometer, force/moment sensor)
  • Experience operating in an ISO environment
